Message from Fr. Jim Finn

FASTING FOR LENT:

Ø  Purifies the soul

Ø  Penance for our sins

Ø  Interceding for the world

Holiness is our goal

Holiness is our goal.  There are many instances where Jesus made reference to Holiness

as our goal in life.

  1. The man who stored up all of his grain worked hard but neglected his soul.
  2. Lazarus, who fed himself magnificently, ignored the poor man at his gate.

We are assisted by the seasons of the year, by the sacraments and by Parish structures such as Pastoral Committee, to grow in holiness.

First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion is a big step in a child’s life.

A child becomes aware that they belong to a community of people made up of adults, children and teenagers.

They know that they are welcome fully into a community and will be helped in the future in their personal and spiritual development.

They become aware in a significant way that there is a spiritual dimension in their life and that the person of Jesus can be a close friend.  This will be the central message which we will convey as parents, school and parish, to our young people.

Confirmation

Confirmation comes for our young people at the threshold of their teenage years, which we will discuss with them.

Through this they become empowered for their years ahead, assisting them to make good decisions for their future and for their life.

We will explore with them the meaning of Confirmation, the reception of the gifts and help them to become aware that they are beginning the process of becoming adults.
