There is a long
history of primary
school education in
Ballymurn with
records dating back
to 1847, in the time
of the Great Famine.
The current school
is located in the
village of Ballymurn
and overlooks some
very pleasant
scenery northwards
towards the
Blackstairs
Mountains.
As part of the
school ethos we seek
to develop the full
potential of every
child in a wide
variety of ways
while promoting a
tolerance and
respect for
difference and
diversity.
Scoil Chroí Ró Naofa
is a Catholic
co-educational
school with an
enrolment of 109
boys and girls
taught by four
classroom teachers.
Other staff members
include a Resource
Teacher, a shared
Learning Support
Teacher and School
Secretary.

Most children travel
to school by car
while others avail
of the School Bus.
Children wear a navy
blue uniform
everyday except for
PE when the school
tracksuit is worn.
Computers in
Education
We are constantly
seeking to increase
and update the level
of IT equipment in
the school and each
classroom currently
has three computers.
It is hoped to have
these networked and
provide broadband
internet access
shortly.
School Activities
Children experience
the full range of
subjects under the
New Revised
Curriculum and also
have the option of
after-school
activities which
help to promote the
holistic development
of the child. Some
of these include :
1. Gaelic football, hurling, girls’ football and camogie
2. Inter-school quizzes
3. Co. Wexford Primary Sports
4. Cumann na mBunscol Rackard League Competitions
5. Art Competitions
6. School outings
7. Inter-schools Tag –Rugby
8. Swimming lessons are organised for children from 1st class
to 6th class
9. Special lessons in Drama, Art and Music activities are
provided for the
children at regular
intervals by
visiting
teachers who have a
particular expertise
in these subjects.
This is in addition
to drama, art and
music activities
already available as
part of the typical
classroom experience
of the New Revised
Curriculum.

Charities supported
by the school
include “Operation
Christmas Child” and
“Bóthar”. By their
involvement in these
charities children
are helped to become
considerate and
generous towards
those who are less
fortunate than
themselves.
Environmental
Awareness
Environmental
Awareness is a theme
which runs through
almost all areas of
school life in Scoil
Chroí Ró Naofa, with
a strong emphasis on
litter control,
recycling and
composting. The
children have
recently planted a
wildlife garden to
the rear of the
school and we look
forward to studying
animal, plant,
insect and bird life
there in the years
ahead.
Parents
Association
The school is
fortunate to have a
very active Parents
Association which is
highly involved in
many school-related
events e.g.
fundraising,
organising outings
for the children
during midterm and
providing
educational
equipment for the
school. Parents also
run a Draughts Club
after school for
children of eight
years upwards. The
Parents Association
traditionally hosts
a party for children
and their families
on the day of First
Holy Communion in
addition to
organising the
annual Children’s
Christmas Party and
children’s discos.
We welcome the
support and
involvement of
parents in all
aspects of their
children’s education
and also work in
co-operation with
local community
groups e.g.
Community Games and
various local
sporting clubs.
Board of
Management
The current Board of
Management of the
school was formed in
2003 and consists of
2 parents, 2
community
representatives, 2
patron’s nominees,
Principal and 1
other member of the
teaching staff.
